May The Fourth Be With You - Culture Wars and the Upcoming Disney Movies
Not least since the Oscars, it appears that diversity, inclusion and political correctness are key ingredients for praise by film critics. On the other hand comic and sci-fi fans around the globe seem to be unhappy with the trend to give prominence to women and minorities, gender-swapping characters and substantial deviations from the source material/lore. Do Disney's new movies (and American Filmmaking/Hollywood in general) support a long-overdue shift to make films a better representation of Earth's diverse cultures and liberate us from the "male gaze" or are they pouring oil into the fire in respect of ideology, filter bubbles and cancel culture.
