World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5th. The day serves as a reminder that we should spread awareness and take small actions every for the protection of our environment.
The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, better known as COP 28, will be held later this year in Dubai, UAE. Five years ago, 196 parties adopted The Paris Agreement, a legally-binding international treaty on climate change.
The agreement sets out a global framework to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. To limit global warming to 1.5°C, greenhouse gas emissions must peak before 2025 at the latest and decline 43% by 2030. The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change indicates that crossing the 1.5°C threshold risks unleashing far more severe climate change impacts, including more frequent and severe droughts, heatwaves and rainfall.
Five years in, are we on track to reaching net-zero? Is there enough global action to limit greenhouse gas emissions to zero? What roles do SDG and education play in the Green Circular Economy? Welcome to join The Economic Club of Hong Kong's upcoming meeting "Green Circular Economy, Climate Action, & COP28", which will be held on June 29 from 19:30 till 21:30 at Social Room (doors open at 19:00 sharp) (3/F, Won Hing Building, 74-78 Stanley St, Central).
